Sustainability in the Digital Age announces Scientific Co-director Dr. David Rolnick has been named to MIT Technology Review’s prestigious annual list of Innovators Under 35 as a Pioneer. Every year, the world-renowned media company recognizes a list of exceptionally talented technologists whose work has great potential to transform the world. This year, Dr. Rolnick features on that list.

Dr. Rolnick is scientific co-director for Sustainability in the Digital Age, CIFAR AI Chair, assistant professor in the School of Computer Science at McGill University, a core academic member of Mila, and co-founder and chair of Climate Change AI, an initiative that catalyzes impactful work at the intersection of machine learning and climate change. His research focuses on understanding deep learning and on applications of machine learning to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

“I’m delighted to be named to the list of ‘35 Innovators Under 35,’ which has included several of my personal heroes,” said Dr. Rolnick. “And am glad to see the increasing interest within the AI community in cross-disciplinary partnerships for climate action.”

Tim Maher, Managing Editor of MIT Technology Review, said: “We get more than 500 nominations for the list every year, and getting that list down to 35—a task not only for the editors at MIT Technology Review but also for our 30+ judges—is one of the hardest things we do each year. We love the way the final list always shows what a wide variety of people there are, all around the world, working on creative solutions to some of humanity’s hardest problems.”
