At COP28 in Dubai, the English language version of the annual 10 New Insights in Climate Science report underscored that a rapid fossil fuels phase-out is crucial for minimizing 1.5°C overshoot. The report equips policymakers with the latest and most pivotal climate science research from the previous 18 months, synthesized to help inform negotiations at COP28 and policy implementation through 2024 and beyond.

On December 14 at Concordia University, Sustainability in the Digital Age, Future Earth Canada, and LEADS launched the French language version of this important work. As Prof. Graham Carr – President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University – stated in his opening remarks, “Climate change knows no borders. Although the challenges are immense, the harsh reality facing our world also has the power to break down the usual barriers, be they cultural, social, scientific or linguistic. The fact that the 10 New Insights in Climate Science is now available in French represents a key step in the democratization of knowledge in this essential field.”

The hybrid event featured a presentation of the latest climate science research and a dynamic panel discussion with distinguished speakers: Prof. Youba Sokona, PhD, Jean Lemire, Me Karine Péloffy, MSc., B.C.L., L.L.B., Chief Ghislain Picard, Dominique Anglade, ing., MBA, Doris Fortin, PhD, and Dominique Bérubé, PhD.

We hope the French version of this long-awaited annual publication – which unveils essential research findings to support decision-making in a critical decade – will serve as a reference in our Canadian and Quebec political bodies. You can read the executive summary in French now on our website. Stay tuned for the French version of the full report early next year.
