Congratulations to Dr. Damon Matthews for being named as part of the 2021-22 North American cohort for the Earth Leadership Program.

Twenty-one outstanding academic researchers from 11 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico will join forces to focus on “transdisciplinary work that brings together scientific disciplines, government representatives, private sector voices, and civil society to build a more sustainable future for all.”

Says Dr. Matthews, “I would like to build my knowledge and comfort level around facilitating multi-stakeholder discussions and communicating about scientific knowledge with decision makers and other members of the general public. I would like to feel like I am helping to advance solutions to the climate crisis and that I have the expertise and connections to others that will allow me to help push the envelope of action and ambition around both domestic and international climate goals.”

As Interim Director and Scientific Co-Director for Sustainability in the Digital Age as well as Concordia’s scientific liaison to Future Earth, Dr. Matthews advises on policy-relevant climate science and works closely with SDA on the Leadership in Environmental and Digital Innovation for Sustainability (LEADS) program, which aims to train graduate student researchers at the intersection of sustainability science and digital innovation.

The Earth Leadership program (previously the Leopold Leadership Program) is a partnership between Future Earth, the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, and the University of Colorado Boulder.
