The use of artificial intelligence is a growing phenomenon in our societies. AI represents a powerful tool for working towards sustainability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On the other hand, taking the SDGs into account leads us to question the framework for the deployment of AI and how to mitigate the perverse effects that it can cause.

In this webinar organized by EDS Institute in collaboration with CIRODD and Future Earth as part of the pancanadian conference Together | Ensemble 2023, we will present initiatives that mobilize digital tools to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs while taking care to integrate the social and environmental dimensions in the development of these tools.

About Together | Ensemble

Together | Ensemble is Canada’s national conference devoted to tracking progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference represents an all-of-society approach to addressing Canada’s toughest sustainable development challenges, bringing together the private sector, academia, government, and civil society. The University of Waterloo is the lead organizer for the conference with support from the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Funding Program and many partners.

Together | Ensemble 2023 will take place on June 7, 8, and 9. The conference will be hosted in-person and online.

This year marks the half-way point of the SDGs mandate to 2030. Unfortunately, no country in the world is on track to achieve them completely, with Canada ranking 29th in the world on SDGs implementation. The 2023 conference theme will focus on how we can accelerate Canada’s SDGs progress and what needs to be done differently to achieve them.
